The Rainbow Obsidian items depicted in photos will be the exact stones received.
These stones were photographed wet and under LED lighting conditions in order to exhibit color bands for lapidary or display use.
Please inform yourself about the nature of Rainbow Obsidian in general before purchasing.
The color sheen in this material are only visible from certain angles and under correct lighting conditions.
Without correct lighting conditions this material may appear deep black.
Colors may be difficult to view if it is a cloudy day or you do not have the correct LED lighting.
Correct lighting is essential for viewing obsidian color sheen.
Wetting or polishing the stone will also cause colors to appear more vibrantly.
The two best ways to view Rainbow Obsidian color sheen:
1. DIRECT FULL SUNLIGHT.
Tilt stone in different directions
2. LED~DAYLIGHT RATED (cool scale) Flood Lamp Bulb (1080 Lumens preferable). Tilt stone in different directions.

This 100% natural Rainbow Obsidian was hand-mined in the Warner Mountains of northeastern California without the use of any motorized equipment. Great care was taken in the extraction and transportation process to ensure that the integrity of the stone is preserved.
We do not accept returns based upon your inability to view colors depicted in photographs. Following the directions posted above will allow you to view colors.
TIPS FROM QUINN:
In my opinion, the best orientation to cut rainbow obsidian for the purposes of slabbing or making cabochons is to cut parallel to the flow bands which you can see on the exterior surface of the stone. In other words, use the banding as a guideline to make your cuts. By cutting parallel to the bands, the resulting slabs will likely be relatively uniform in color, but when you cut cabochons from these slabs, the curved surface of the cabochon will bring out “eyeball” patterns in the color banding, as long as the slab contains at least two bands of color. Considering this, you may want to make your cuts strategically so that the resulting slabs will contain multiple color bands, which will produce more striking eyeball patterns. Even if you end up with some slabs that only contain one color, this orientation will produce excellent cabs because the color sheen will be visible from a direct line of sight.
Cutting sub-parallel to the color bands is an option, but the problem with that is that you will have to view the resulting cabochons from an angle in order to see the color sheen, rather than being able to see the color sheen from a direct angle.
Mining for Rainbow Obsidian in Northeastern California has been drastically limited with restrictions imposed due to political determinations. This area produces the highest quality of Rainbow Obsidian seen anywhere.
