SOGA SHOHAKU
(1730-1781) was a painter of the mid Edo period. He distinguished himself from his contemporaries by preferring the brush style of the Muromachi period, the aesthetic form that had already exsisted for 150 years before his birth. His birth name was Miura Sakonjiro. Although his family was wealthy, all of his immediate family members died before he reached the age of 18. It is said Shohaku influenced Picasso.
