What exactly is a "
Bolero
"?.....
It is a loose, waist-length jacket which is open in the front. Still in style, today, as it was during Betsy's arrival in 1957.
This is a new custom made Black Felt Bolero, same style as the black velveteen bolero jacket in the "Holiday" Outfit for 8" Betsy McCall from 1958 (see last photo).
See last photo which shows a photo of the original outfit as it was introduced in 1958, this is on page 135 of the AMERICAN CHARACTER DOLLS, Identification & Value Guide, 2004 by Judith Izen.

I especially love the deep cheery brunettes.
