Shunga commentary
The picture drawn here is "Shunga".
Shunga is a type of ukiyo-e and has a sexual depiction.
There is also a famous Ukiyo-e Shunga painting, but it was not originally released and was also called "Makurae" because it was enjoyed quietly by individuals.
This picture is drawn on cloth, not paper.
Ukiyo-e and Shunga are usually printed on Japanese paper in woodblock, but this is written by hand on cloth.
This is a common technique in Japanese painting.
Most of the cloth materials used to draw Japanese paintings are silk.
This is called KENPON.
This painting was called KENPON by the previous owner.
But I don't know if it's really silk.
I think this product was originally a scroll with multiple pictures drawn on it.
I think it was peeled off from the scroll and cut into individual pictures.
There are traces of peeling the paper on the back of the picture.
Regarding the production age
Shunga became popular during the Edo period and was actively produced until the Meiji period, but it gradually became obsolete as photography became more common.
The author is unknown, but it is often not left with the author's name because it is not published.
So I don't know the age.
From the state of the picture, it seems that it is quite old.
Status
The painting is elaborate, with the details of the background drawn, and the workmanship of the painting seems to be good.
It is dull due to deterioration over time.
There are also places with stains.
Since the base is cloth, there are frayed threads on the edge.
There is a place with peeled paper on the back of the picture.
