Description
This is a super rareCyclobatis oligodactylus
stingray fossil from Hjoula, Lebanon. Now available for your collection!
The limestone plate measures 5-1/4 inches by 4-1/4 inches and approximately 3/4 of an inch thick. The fossil is approximately 3-1/2 inches long by 3-1/8 inches wide. The limestone plate was broken during excavation and has been glued back together as you can see if you look closely at all of the photos. The breakage passed straight across the center of the fossil but broke cleanly. The repair was done very well and very minimal fill was necessary. This type of breakage and repair is very common with almost all Cyclobatis fossils. This rare specimen is very solid and stable and will display very well in any collection. It also has a bonus Carpopenaeus shrimp fossil at the top center of the plate.
The formation where this amazing fossil was found in Hjoula, Lebanon is approximately 95 million years old. This was during the Cretaceous Period when dinosaurs like T-Rex were thriving on the land.

FAQ'S:
Q: Do you provide a certificate of authenticity?
A:
We do not offer certificates of authenticity with any of our fossils because there is no unbiased third party services for fossils as you may be familiar with for man-made items such as coins and sports cards. No two fossils are alike or identical so it would be impossible to come up with an accurate or fair grading system. If I provided a certificate it would just be me simply printing it on my computer. Anyone selling any fossils who offers a certificate is simply printing it on their computer and you are still just taking their word for it. I'm sure this isn't the answer you were hoping for but it is the honest truth. You can take any fossil we sell to your local natural history museum and they will be able to verify it is indeed a fossil. It will depend upon their knowledge of the fossils from different geographical locations as to whether they can verify the location but they absolutely SHOULD be able to verify an authentic fossil. As it stands, I have been collecting fossils for roughly 35 years and I only deal with reputable dealers, divers and collectors. I also have found countless fossils on my own. So with that said, I offer a 100% guarantee that all of my fossils are authentic and are from the stated location. You can print this Ebay description and it would be equally as valuable as any certificate anyone could make.

Definition of Repair:
A broken off part that was found with the fossil and has been glued back on. Everyone would glue a broken fossil back together but absolutely must say this when they go to sell the fossil. This is considered by most collectors to be completely acceptable as long as they know this at the time of purchase. This is the case with most dinosaur fossils and is considered normal because the fossils are found in many pieces and it is the only way they would ever be offered up for sale or study.
Definition of Restoration:
Replacing a section that was never there to begin with to make the fossil appear to be complete. This includes filling in root pitting with sand and whatever else was found at the site the fossil was collected. This type of restoration can usually be detected visually but can also be detected by soaking the fossil in acetone for 24 hours. The acetone will break down any glue or paint used and will not harm the natural fossil. Restoration is considered acceptable as long as this is known during the sale but
in most cases diminishes the value of the fossil greatly
